A surprise phone call from a very dear friend from school and college made my day. We speak to each other once in while. Recently, once in a while has turned into once every 3-4 years. The unique aspect of our friendship is that the minute we start talking it's like we have conversations every day. There is no awkwardness or uneasiness. We immediately catch each other up on everything that's been going on in our lives- our families, kids, schools, parenting, weight loss strategies, and anything else that comes to mind. I never wonder why she doesn't keep in touch more often and neither does she. We don't offer excuses or apologies for not calling. We know that we think about each other from time to time and we hope everything's going well. Its unspoken but I know that we'll help each other out if either of us needed any support or assistance.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if all our relationships were like that? Relationships where there are no recriminations, excuses, misunderstandings, or justification for our actions. I'm, of course, assuming that we are all reasonable people here and not some sort of sociopath. Life would definitely be easier but maybe not as exciting. What do you think?
I have a friend that's like that. The funny thing is, at 35, I had a baby. She called me out of the blue right after that. She's a few years older than me. Low & behold, after I told her I just had a baby, she told me she was pregnant!
